How to Eat High Alkaline Foods
High alkaline foods are believed to improve health by decreasing acid in the blood stream. This is a hotly debated topic, but one which many natural health practitioners advocate. According to American herbalist, Jethro Kloss, eating a diet of high alkaline foods will prevent any disease from forming in the body. You don't have anything to lose, and much to gain - including better health. Even if it's not the alkalinity of these foods that are improving your state of being, there is still much to be said for the positive effects they have on the body.

1
Eat a diet of 50-80 percent high alkaline foods per day. This is the goal to maintain an alkaline blood stream, and fight or prevent disease. If you cannot abide by this, eat as many of these foods as possible to improve your health.
-
2
Add highly alkaline veggies to your diet. These include asparagus, onions, raw spinach leaves, broccoli, garlic, and parsley. Try to eat at least 1-2 of these foods with every dinner. These are high alkaline foods that can contribute to an overall alkaline diet.

3
Add highly alkaline fruits to your diet, such as lemons, limes, watermelon, grapefruit, mangos, and papayas. Try to eat at least one of these alkaline foods per day to contribute to your overall percentage. Although lemons and limes are typically thought of as acidic, when consumed, they have an alkalizing effect on the body.
-
4
Add highly alkaline oils to your diet, including extra virgin olive oil and Grapeseed oil. Use these oils in recipes anytime cooking oils are called for, or use them to make salad dressings - anywhere that you would normally use more acidic cooking oils. Aim for eating at least one serving of alkaline oils each day, in the meal of your choosing.

5
Drink high alkaline beverages, instead of soft drinks. These beverages include herbal teas, spring water, and lemon water (not lemonade). Make herbal teas by combining one teaspoon of dried herbs with one cup of boiling water, allowing the mixture to steep for 10-15 minutes, and then straining and sweetening with an alkaline sweetener.
-
6
Use alkaline sweeteners for your high alkaline foods and beverages. These include stevia, maple syrup, and rice syrup. Honey may be used, but is considered low-alkaline.
