Scientists predict that California could have a big one within the next 30 years, however, earthquakes are not unique to this region. Earthquakes happen just about everywhere. With adequate preparation, many people have survived major earthquakes. How can you prepare your family for a major earthquake? GP102 (2 of 3)

Instructions
  1. Step 1
     

    Have family drills, and emphasize the need to (1) remain calm, (2) shut off stoves and heaters, (3) Take cover by getting under a table or a desk, and (4) stay away from windows and mirrors.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure that heavy objects are bolted down such as water heaters and shelves.

  3. Step 3

    Teach everyone that is capable how to turn off electric power and gas.

  4. Step 4

    Keep a portable radio on hand with fresh batteries.

  5. Step 5

    Prepare an earthquake survival kit, including a first-aid kit.
