How to scan a report and edit the text with Adobe Acrobat Pro
Have you ever lost a disc or floppy disc of your work and you only have the hard copy on your hand? Is that file or report over 10 pages long? Did you ask yourself "oh boy, now I have to rewrite all this again and add more info to it?" Well not any more, with Adobe Acrobat's OCR text recognition, you can scan all your documents on your hand and convert them back into a word document and add more info to your report. You do not have to rewrite the whole report ever again. When you scan a report with other software, it will save as a picture and it will be uneditable, but with Adobe Acrobat you can edit a report after it has been scanned.

Open Adobe Acrobat Pro on your desktop.

Once you have clicked on that, a window will open. In input, select the scanner which you have, if you have one of those big copiers like the Canon Image runner, you may select both sides as it will automatically scan both side of the pages, but if you have a normal flatbed scanners, just leave it as frontsides.

Color mode leave it as color
Resolution: Select the highest level your scanner can scan, please read the owner manual from the scanner to see how many DPI it can take. For the safe side 300 DPI is OK, especially scanner that are 3+ years old.
DPI means Dots Per Inch -

Output select Add new PDF Document.

In document, optimization leave it a small size.

In the Text recognition and Metadata, make sure Make searchable (Run OCR) is check and make Accessible. Now press scan. It will start scanning.
Once it is done scanning, it will ask you if you want to add more pages, select add more pages (you should have the following page ready to scan before you press OK) -

Once you have scanned all your documents, check create PDF or finish. Now it will convert to a PDF but in the same time, it will optimize the pages scanned to it might take awhile, but not that long. After its done, press save.

Once its done, all you have to do is highlight all the text with your mouse.

Open your Microsoft word, go back to the PDF and and highlight all the text. Right click with your mouse and press Copy. Go to Word and right click with your mouse and select Paste.

All the text from your report is now on word and you can start editing it or add more to your report.
