Step 1
Prior to contacting potential candidates be sure you have screened each resume or job application. Look for past work and education experience that will fit the needs for the open position. There is no need to waste your time bringing in candidates who are not a good fit for the position based on their past experience unless you are willing to train them.
-
Step 2
Have all interview candidates fill out any paperwork before the interview at home or in the office before the meeting begins. You don't want to waste your time sitting around waiting for this information to be filled out. Interviews need to be focused on candidate and employer - not on paperwork!
-
Step 3
Prepare a list of set questions you would like to ask each candidate before the interview. For consistency, try and use these questions for all of the candidates you interview so that you can make judgments on similar data. Don't hesitate to stray some from these sets of questions depending on the situation though. Each interview and candidate will be different, so you need to adjust.
-
Step 4
Conduct an interview in a professional manner. Dress appropriately and be on time when you interview candidates. First impressions not only matter for someone attending an interview - they are also very important for the interviewer. Show each candidate what they can expect working at your company.
-
Step 5
Always save time at the end of the interview to allow the candidate to ask questions. It is important to allow enough time for a informal question and answer session by the person being interviewed. This allows them to get a better understanding of the job requirements and the company.
