Things You'll Need:
- a comfortable chair or pillow if you wish to do this on the floor.
- a brightly lit room
- at least fifteen minutes to yourself
-
Step 1
http://cruiseandvacationexperts.com/river-cruises/nile-egypt/Sit in the chair. Place your palms on the tops of your legs. You should resemble one of the egyptian statues of pharo sitting on the throne.
-
Step 2
The room should be brightly lit. This is done to keep you from falling asleep, which is easy to do.
-
Step 3
In order to train your mind to think of nothing, you must first teach it disipline. One way you can do this is to think of the number one. Just say one over and over to yourself.
-
Step 4
If a stray thought comes into your mind, let it go and move up the line in numbers. If you get an itch, by all means scratch it. There is no point in meditateing if you are miserable. Just know that in time you will be able to go the full fifteen minutes without moveing a muscle.
-
Step 5
When your fifteen minutes are up, what number did you get to? Remember that the lower the number the better. In time you will be able to quiet your mind on a moments notice, but this takes time. Begiun your practice, only after you are able to disipline your mind may you listen to some soft, new age type music. Why? you ask. because you are trying to disipline your mind, not listen to music.
