If you have a stray cat hanging around your house, and you need to capture him, follow these steps if you do not want to use an actual trap. You will need a lot of patience and time.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medium Kennel
  • Dry Cat Food
  • Canned Cat Food
  1. Step 1

Firstly, you'll want to buy a medium cat kennel if you do not already have one. Do not use a small kennel.

  2. Step 2

Set the kennel outside near your house, preferably in a secluded area where the cat is usually seen. Leave the kennel door wide open.

  3. Step 3

Do not leave any cat food, dog food, or food in general outside for a few days before attempting this. Place a bowl of cat food inside the kennel in the far corner. Using canned cat food is better, most cats can't resist the smell, but if the cat is hungry enough, dry food will suffice.

  4. Step 4

Wait nearby. Eventually the cat will come across the smell of food and follow it, entering the kennel. If the cat is inside the kennel, slowly, and I mean very slowly, creep towards the kennel and quickly shut the kennel door securely. You will need a medium or large kennel specifically for this reason, if the kennel is too small the cat will not walk all the way in the kennel and it can easily back out of the kennel if it hears you shutting the kennel door.

  5. Step 5

Once the cat is safely in the kennel and the door is closed, take him in your house and call your local Humane Society and other local animal rescues to see if anyone is missing a cat. You can also drop him off at a local shelter or rescue, most shelters and rescues will try to re-home stray cats if possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put a towel over the kennel so it's covering the sides, that way the cat can't see you through the side of the kennel when you're approaching.
  • If you do not have cat food, tuna fish will do.
  • Be careful the cat doesn't scratch or bite you in the process of capturing him.
