How to Make Creative Jell-O Shooters

Artistry is in the eye of the beholder--and to the host of a summer party, a creative cocktail recipe is the Mona Lisa of party planning. Here are few works of art composed during the "Gelatin Period"--aka Jell-O shots!

Instructions

1. Margarita Worm Jell-O Shots

   3 (3 oz.) packages of Lime Jell-O
   3 cups boiling water
   2 cups cold water
   3/4 cup tequila
   1/3 cup Triple Sec
   24 gummie worms
   24 2-oz. plastic cups
   Cooking spray

2. Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Mix in Jell-O until dissolved (about 2 minutes). Mix in cold water, tequila and Triple Sec. Spray shot glasses with cooking spray (so the shot comes out of the cup easily). Pour the mixture into shot glasses (or paper cups), add one gummie worm to each cup. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

3. Lemon Drop Jell-O Shots

   2 (3 oz.) packages of Lemon Jell-O
   2 packages of Knox gelatin (makes the Jell-O more firm for slicing)
   2 cups boiling water
   1 cup chilled lemon vodka
   4 to 6 lemons

4. Cut the lemons in half, scoop out the flesh and place the hallowed lemons on a cookie sheet. Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Mix in Jell-O and Knox gelatin until dissolved (about 2 minutes), then mix in vodka. Pour the mixture into the hallowed lemons and refrigerate overnight. Cut the lemon halves in half. The finished shots look like slices of lemons--perfect to bite into and make a lemon rind smile (immature I know, but fun!).

5. Cherry Cola Star Jell-O Shots

   2 (3 oz.) packages of Cherry Jell-O
   2 envelopes Knox gelatin
   1 cup boiling cola
   1 cup cold cola
   ½ cup amaretto
   ½ cup spiced rum
   Star cookie cutter
   9-by-13 inch cake pan
   Cooking spray
   White platter

6. Bring cola to a boil and remove from heat. Mix in Jell-O and Knox gelatin until dissolved (about 2 minutes), then mix in amaretto and rum. Spray the cake pan with cooking spray. Pour the mixture into the pan about as deep as your cookie cutter. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into star shapes using the cookie cutter and present on a simple white platter. This is perfect for Memorial Day and Fourth of July parties.
