How to Make Your Own Wood Polish

Wouldn’t it be nice to have shiny, clean furniture in your house without the use of harsh chemicals and detergents? You can! It’s so easy to make. Homemade wood polish is just as natural as salad dressing and can be used safely on most wood. For best results, test a small area of the unseen wood before using on the furniture. Learn how to make your own wood polish below and get cleaning!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Lemon Fragrance oil (Optional)
  1. Step 1

    Mix together the olive oil and lemon juice in a small mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Add 3 to 5 drops of fragrance oil to the oil mixture and stir well. This is entirely optional. You can also use essential oil instead.

  3. Step 3

    Pour the wood polish into a small dish with a lid.

  4. Step 4

    Refrigerate the wood polish for 2 to 3 hours or until the oil has thickened.

  5. Step 5

    Rub a soft cloth into the wood polish and clean any wood furniture in your home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make a new batch of wood polish each time you clean.
  • Try using different fragrance oils.
  • Do not use this wood polish on floors. It will make the floor dangerously slippery.

on 4/24/2009 I love natural ingredients. (And commercial polishes do terrible things to my sinuses.) Other than for fragrance, what does the lemon juice do?
