Things You'll Need:
- Telephone
- Phone jack
- New telephone cords
- Wire maintenance plan
-
Step 1
Determine when the connection issues started. Sometimes during a thunderstorm, the phone line may encounter damages from a lightning strike. Damages to the phone line can interrupt telephone service.
-
Step 2
Plug your phone into another phone jack in the house, in order to isolate the problem. Sometimes the phone jack that the phone is plugged in may have a defect. If you experience the same issue with the phone line connection, move to the next step to resolve the issue.
-
Step 3
Check to see if the telephone cords are loose. Having loose telephone cords can interfere with the phone line connection. Replace the old telephone cords with new ones.
-
Step 4
Test another telephone by plugging it into the same phone jack. A defective telephone can be easily overlooked, when troubleshooting a phone line connection.
-
Step 5
Call your telephone company for an appointment, to check the telephone wiring if you fail to resolve the issue. Most telephone companies offer a monthly wire maintenance plan for an additional monthly fee.
