Instructions

    • 1

Open a new Keynote '09 presentation on your computer by clicking the Keynote icon in the Dock or the Applications folder.

    • 2

Select the theme you want to use for your presentation. For this example we will be using the "Stock Book" theme.

    • 3

Click the "New" button at the top to create a new slide.

    • 4

Under the "Masters" option on the top menu of the Keynote window, select "Title & Bullets" to change the layout of the slide.

    • 5

Replace the title with your own text by double-clicking on the text that says "Double-click to edit. Let's use the title "Must-Have Kitchen Utensils" for this presentation.

    • 6

Double-click the one and only list item below the title and type in a list of kitchen utensils, hitting the "Return" key after each one. For this list we'll use Chef's Knife, Spatula, Whisk, Apple Corer, Potato Peeler.

    • 7

Click on the "Inspector" icon at the top menu to open the Inspector window. This is where all of the options for text styling, actions, effects and transitions are set.

    • 8

Open the "Build Inspector" by clicking on the "Build Inspector" icon, third from the left. It looks like a tilted box with motion lines coming off the right of it.

    • 9

Click on the "Build In" button in the Build Inspector window.

    • 10

Select your favorite effect from the "Effects" drop-down menu. We'll use "Drop" for this example.

    • 11

Choose how you want the list to build--whether all at once or bullet by bullet--from the "Delivery" drop-down menu. Here we'll select "By Bullet."

    • 12

Specify how long a duration you want between each item dropping by increasing or decreasing the time in the "Duration" field.

    • 13

Preview your slide and the effects you added by clicking on the "play" button at the top of the Keynote window.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also have more control over the time between each list item dropping by clicking on the "More Options" button. The best way to learn any program is to explore, and Keynote is no exception!
