Step 1
1.) Always, always, check to be sure you are able to have a garage sale. Home Owners Associations, or Community rules, may dictate when and even if a garage sale is allowed.
-
Step 2
2.) If you have furniture, or large items, that needs to be sold, assemble them. Things sell better when they come "No Assembly Required".
-
Step 3
Place an ad in your local newspaper. Include the important information- location, date, and time. Don't forget a rain date. Hang signs and posters at the grocery store, on bus stops, telephone poles, and trees.
-
Step 4
4.) Price tags are your friend! Your potential customers will get tired of asking how much an item cost. Use bright colored tags so people can spot them easily. If you are having a multi-family sale, use a different colored tag for each family to keep things organized.
-
Step 5
5.) Group similar items together. Put clothes on racks, books in boxes, and miscellaneous items on a card table.
-
Step 6
6.) Be prepared to bargain. Remember, everyone wants a good deal, and you are trying to get rid of things!
-
Step 7
7.) Reduce your prices in the last 2 hours of your sale. Let the focus become more on getting rid of EVERYTHING!
