The death of a pet can be an upsetting time for all members of the family. But knowing the best way to bury a pet is something that few people ever consider until they have to do it. This article looks at the best ways of burying pets.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shovel
  • Dead Pet
  • Land
  • Garbage Sacks
  • Paper towels
  • Hand sanitizer
  1. Step 1

The first thing to do is to make sure that your pet is carefully wrapped ready for moving. Smaller animals are best wrapped in paper towels, ensuring that both ends are covered and the ends are secured and folded over. This prevents extremities or tails from coming loose and falling out.

  2. Step 2

If you have a pet larger than a cat to bury, then sing a garbage sack is usually a lot easier. Be sure to get strong sacks as the weight of a large animal will cause most sacks to rip.

  3. Step 3

The next step is to find a suitable place to bury the corpse, generally secluded spots in gardens or yards are best. Be sure not to use a spot which collects a lot of rain, or has a lot of heavy traffic over it, such as where children play. This is to ensure that the remains don't eventually become exposed or dredged up by people wearing the turf.

  4. Step 4

Burying pets at least a couple of feet deep is preferable, as this better ensures that other animals are less likely to dig them up again. If there are other animals around likely to scavenge remains from your yard, then putting a heavy plant pot or similar object on top of the burial plot is a good idea.

  5. Step 5

Lastly you might want to place a marker on the grave, or any other symbols you want to use. Although this is a good way to make sure you never dig up the bones in the future, often having no marking can also be beneficial if you have young children. This is because they will tend to get over the loss quicker if they can forget about the pet, and a marker can often serve as a constant reminder.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to wash your hands after handling dead animals.
  • Never let other pets eat parts of your dead pets, as they will often get sick as a result.
