Capturing a visitors attention on your blog can be a difficult thing. Rather than reading each word on a Web page, users scan the page for key words and phrases.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Formatting - Your titles should stand out visually. Use larger fonts, different colors, bold, capitals, italics and/or underlining. The only thing thing to consider is underlines represent links.

  2. Step 2

Lists - Ordered or unordered lists make it very easy for users to scan text.

  3. Step 3

Pictures - Use appropriate images/thumbnails/icons to draw peoples attention to your content. Overdue it and it will have the reverse affect.

  4. Step 4

White Space - Separate your content with line-heights, margins and paddings. This makes it easier for your visitors to scan your page.

  5. Step 5

Short Paragraphs - Writing short paragraphs or excerpts describing the rest of the content makes it easier for users to know what they are about to read before they try and figure it out.

  6. Step 6

Make your point - Make your point as soon as possible. People don't want to read and read and read and read to figure out what you are trying to get at. Make it short and sweet.
