Learn how to select the perfect Father's Day gift that is cheap, inexpensive, but sure to please.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Willing to engage your brain
  • A Father, Grandfather, or a Special Man who stands in as your father figure
  • $12 or less to spend on a gift
  • Paper for Card
  • Paper Bag for kids to color or sports or comic pages to wrap presents
  1. Step 1

Think about what kind of dad or father you are buying for. This is the most important step so that you don't waste your money and so that you can really buy the perfect, thoughtful gift for him that will be the right present for Father's Day.

Is he a professional dad? Scholarly dad? Sport's dad? Movie dad? Bookworm dad? Green dad? Healthy dad?

Now that you have narrowed down what kind of dad you are buying for, you are ready for the next step.

  2. Step 2

Think of inexpensive gifts that are full of thought that would thrill the type of dad you hoping to surprise with a gift on Father's Day.

A bookworm dad might like an excellent book like Your Best Life Now. If you have a dad that is not a good reader, then the Your Best Life Now 90 Day Devotion is excellent because each day is only 2 pages long and an easy, enjoyable, positive, uplifting read. These books can be found new for under $13 at Walmart and used for just a few dollars on Amazon.com.

A sports dad might like a home-made card with a sports theme and a $10 gift certificate to his favorite place to watch sports like Gators Dockside.

If you want to buy needed clothing and accessories, try discount stores, eBay, and etsy. Some traditional stores like Old Navy have wonderful online outlets or clearance sections. You can find many name brand items with the original retail tags. Make sure to check the measurements before an online purchase.

  3. Step 3

Save on cards by making your own and save on wrapping by recycling your wrapping paper.

Cards can be made by incorporating a favorite picture or a scene from his favorite hobby or sport on some construction paper or card stock. Wrapping paper can be from the comics or the sports section of the newspaper. Or you can stuff his gifts in a re-usable bag that is found at most grocery stores or Walgreens, CVS, for $1 or $2. If you need a big bag, used a paper shopping bag that the kids decorate with markers or paint. And if you want to skip wrapping or coloring bags, just tie a simple ribbon or yarn on the gifts. You can also stick a bow on them, even one you make yourself out of paper or ribbon.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dads are usually funtional, practical, and cheap themselves. Most would prefer less pomp and glamour in gift packaging or gift selection and more function or usefulness.
  • If you want to please your dad with a gift, you must take a few minutes to think like your dad.
  • Take a few minutes to really think about your dad. What kinds is he? Is he into fuss or is he economical or into sports, etc? Then armed with this knowledge make the best cheap choice for his perfect Father's Day gift.
