Fraud Alert

A fraud alert is placed on a person's credit file if identity theft is suspected. If someone attempts to open a new credit card in your name, open a bank account or obtain a new loan in your name, the lender should contact you with an alert. Equifax works with the other two major credit bureaus, Transunion and Experian. The fraud alert will also be placed on your credit file with these two credit reporting agencies.
