Living in a rural area usually requires that you have a well since city water is not available. Whatever type of well you have, whether it be a deep well or a shallow well, there is a tank somewhere near the supply pipe before it enters the dwelling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First you will want to turn the power off leading to the tank. Turn the water off leading to the tank before and after it leaves the tank.

  2. Step 2

Most times there is a union installed on the supply. If not you will need to cut the pipe. Remove the wires that are attached to the pressure switch. This switch is located at the base of the tank usually screwed into a tee.

  3. Step 3

Remove the tank and unscrew the tee from the base of the tank. Apply tephlon tape to the threads of the tee and install it into the new tank. Install the pressure switch and wire it up. Reconnect all piping and turn the water on. Check for leaks, turn the electric on and you have completed the task.
