Irish wedding invitations are not hugely different from American invitations. There are, however, some features that distinguish an Irish wedding invitation. By choosing traditional images and including a Gaelic poem, you can create Irish wedding invitations to set the tone for your ceremony.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stationary from an Irish proprietor
  • Traditional Irish poem
  1. Step 1

Order stationary with a Celtic design to honor the legacy of Ireland and to acknowledge the country in its present day. Lantz Weddings and Interiors in Dublin offers an array of customized and do-it-yourself stationary that can be ordered and delivered internationally (see Resources section below.)

  2. Step 2

Select an image of two hands bound in garlic or flowers as part of the invitation's background. This was the traditional way to bind a couple together in Ireland, before the practice of using wedding rings.

  3. Step 3

Include a traditional Gaelic blessing in your wedding invitation. "May the road rise to meet you" is one option.

  4. Step 4

Offer a Gaelic translation below the English writing in the invitation. A free online translator, like Irish Gaelic Translator, would be useful if you don't speak the language yourself (see Resources section).

  5. Step 5

Announce in the invitation that the couple will be walking up to the church together, and invite the guests to join them along the way. This was an ancient wedding tradition in Ireland.

Tips & Warnings
  • Traditionally, the bride's parents send out the invitations, and they are sent out 6 weeks before the wedding.
