Cold sores, a common viral breakout caused by the herpes virus, can be contagious, painful and embarrassing. This article provides simple, natural remedies that help the body fight the herpes virus to reduce healing time for cold sores.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Unleash the Power of Plant Oils

  1. Step 1

Mix jojoba oil, neem oil and tea tree oil, one droplet each.

  2. Step 2

Apply and dab mixture on cold sore as often as possible.

  3. Step 3

The jojoba oil will help the active anti-viral components in tea tree and neem oils, assisting penetration into the site of the cold sore. If you're using a topical OTC drug for your cold sore, you can mix a little of this mixture in with your medicine.

  4. Use Active l-Lysine

  5. Step 1

Take l-Lysine dietary supplements at doses of 1000 mg, three times daily before meals, allowing 20 to 40 minutes for your body to absorb. If you feel uncomfortable taking l-Lysine capsules on empty stomach, take with warm milk or with plain crackers.

  6. Step 2

Open a l-Lysine capsule and release some of the contents into the jojoba oil mixture described in Section 1.

  7. Step 3

Apply the new mixture (l-Lysine, jojoba oil, neem oil and tea tree oil) onto cold sore regularly.

  8. Step 4

Stop taking l-Arginine if you're taking this dietary supplement.
