Build a bear website

The Internet is full of websites offering information to Internet users all over the world. People with a lot of knowledge about a particular subject create websites so that other Internet users can read, learn and understand the information they present. If you have a lot of knowledge about bears and would like to build a bear website, the process is probably easier than you think.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide which kind of bears you'll be featuring on your website. For instance, if your knowledge is mainly about grizzly bears and you don't know much about any other breed of bear, then you should focus on grizzlies. If, however, you have a great deal of knowledge about many types of bears, you can make your website a general one about all kinds of bears.

  2. Step 2

Think of a name for your website. Consider what your website will be about. If it's just about one type of bear, incorporate that breed of bear's name into the name of the website. Likewise, if the site will be about all kinds of breeds of bears, keep that in mind when choosing the name of the website.

  3. Step 3

Purchase your domain name. This is the name of your website and what users will type into the address bar of their browser in order to get to your website. GoDaddy (see Resources), for example, has low-priced domain names and has won awards for its customer service.

  4. Step 4

Purchase a hosting plan. A general rule used by many website designers is not to purchase your hosting plan from the place where you purchase your domain name. Companies that provide cheap domain names make up for it by charging more for their hosting plans (and hosting sites that offer low-priced hosting usually charge quite a bit more for domain purchases).

  5. Step 5

Create your website. To do this, use your knowledge of HTML, XML XHTML and/or CSS, or use a website template (see Resources).

  6. Step 6

Add photos to your site. Use your own photos if you have them. If you don't have any, use photos from photo-sharing sites that allow legal use of photos from other users. Wikimedia Commons is one of these sites.

  7. Step 7

Monetize your site. You might be creating this site simply to offer your knowledge to other people, but you can make money from building a bear website. To do this, sign up with affiliate networks (see Resources). Once you've signed up with the affiliate networks, decide which products or services you want to promote that fit well with the topic of your site. For example, you could promote books about bears or stuffed plush bears. When users click on these links and make purchases, you'll earn commission.
