How to Polish a Football Helmet
Football is as much about appearance to some players as it is about hard-hitting, dazzling runs, long passes and winning. The uniforms are colorful and definitive of a team's identity, and the pads are designed more for the gladiator-look than they are for the protection of the players. One of the things a football player may overlook that the people in the stands may not is the shine of the helmet. Fans notice how good their team's uniforms look when the players sprint onto the field for the first game of the season. After the game, though, the helmets are scratched and dirty, with grass stains and the other team's helmet paint all over them. Before the next game, the team manager or a group of people who know what it takes to keep football players looking good on gameday will round up the helmets and shine them up. Read on to learn how to polish a football helmet.

1
Use a wet cloth to clean the helmet. You don't want dirt and the other team's helmet paint on your team's protective caps.
-
2
Dry the helmet with one of the dry cloths.

3
Use small amounts of polish on different parts of the helmet. There are polishes that come in squirt bottles and spray bottles and all of it works (links available in the Resources section). Rub the polish in with another dry cloth.
-
4
Wipe the polish off with the third dry cloth.
-
5
Buff the helmet with a buffing cloth and allow it to dry. Once the helmet is dry, it will maintain the wet polish until game day, after which it will be time to start the process over again.
