Make a snowflake place card.

Decorate your table for a winter dinner with snowflake place cards. The snowflakes, which are glued onto the front of the place cards, are fun to cut out, so kids could be recruited to help with this step. Each place card features a design with the guest's name on each side, so the cards serve a double purpose: Not only do guests know where they should sit, but other guests will know the names of people at the table, helping to stimulate conversation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White Card Stock
  • White Copy Paper
  • Blue Construction Paper
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Scissors with Decorative Cutting Edge
  • Glue Stick
  • Marker
  • White Glitter
  1. Step 1

Cut a 6-by-3-inch piece of card stock, using a scissors with a decorative edge. Fold it in half to create a double-sided 3-by-3-inch square.

  2. Step 2

Cut a 2-by-2-inch piece of blue construction paper, with the decorative-edge scissors. Turn the blue paper to create a diamond shape (one pointed end down) and glue it to the center of the card stock.

  3. Step 3

Write the guest's name in the upper corner of the card.

  4. Step 4

Using regular scissors, cut a 2-by-2-inch piece of copy paper. Fold the paper in half horizontally and then vertically. You should now have a 1-by-1-inch square that has four thicknesses. Turn the paper so that the point at the end of each folded edge is facing downward. Fold the paper again to create a triangle, keeping the fold point at the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Holding the fold point at the bottom, cut the top point on an angle or cut a rounded edge. Make rounded or triangular cuts along all sides of the triangle. The shapes you cut do not have to be uniform. Each snowflake can be different. Experiment with cuts to find the look you like. Important: You may cut into the folded edge, but do not completely cut away this edge.

  6. Step 6

    Unfold to see your snowflake.

  7. Step 7

Press the snowflake with a warm, dry iron to flatten the fold lines. Working over a piece of scrap paper, rub the glue stick over the snowflake. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle the snowflake with glitter. Carefully peel the snowflake off the paper. Shake off excess glitter.

  8. Step 8

Glue the snowflake to the blue paper in the center of the place card.

  9. Step 9

Repeat the snowflake-making process to make the other side of the card.
