How to Make Beeswax Pillar Candles

Beeswax is available in wide sheets that are imprinted with a honeycomb pattern. This beeswax makes easy pillar candles because it doesn't have to be melted and reshaped to create the candle. Instead, the natural pliancy of the wax is used to shape the beeswax around a wick.

Choose a beeswax sheet and lay it flat on a hard surface. The shorter side of the beeswax sheet should be closest to you. Cut a piece of candle wick so that an extra inch will be left on either side of the beeswax sheet.

Press the wick into the edge of the beeswax that is closest to you. Pressing it gently with your fingers will put enough pressure on this portion of the wax to allow the wick to stay in place.

    • 3

Roll the beeswax over the wick and away from you. This is done as slowly as possible in order to create a tight roll around the wick. There should be no air left in between each layer of the beeswax. While rolling the sheet, be careful not to press on the wax or you will bend it out of shape. Rolling the beeswax sheet slowly also makes it easier to keep the line of wax straight.

Press the edge of the beeswax sheet into place gently after the entire sheet has been rolled. If you want the candle to be thicker, take a second beeswax sheet and place it against the edge of the first and roll that one until it reaches the end of the sheet. The candle is complete once the

Choose a side to be the top of the candle. Many people look at both sides and choose the one that looks neater. Trim the wick down so that it is flat against the side that will be the bottom and leave about half an inch of wick on the side that is the top.
