How to Make Company Logos

The first thing people will see when they do business with your company is your logo. Think of some of the famous logos that are burned into your memory and how those logos immediately draw to mind the products they represent; Coca Cola, Burger King, McDonald's and Starbucks are just a few. A company logo is the first impression your company gives to potential consumers. You want a company logo that will give your company an equally high level of recognition in the marketplace.

Design your logo. Sketch out a couple of ideas on paper. The initial sketches don't need to be perfect. You want to decide whether your logo will be text on or whether you will incorporate a graphic. The idea with the initial sketch will be to see what the overall design will encompass and how the balance will look.

Decide whether you are going to draw your logo by hand or if you plan to use a graphics design software to create it. If you draw by hand, you will need to scan it into your computer at some point so you can reproduce the company logo on letterhead and use it for advertising purposes. There are plenty of graphics programs on the market that make creating logos easy (see Resources).

Consider the balance of your logo. If you include a graphic element, make sure it doesn't overshadow the name of your company. Use a graphic that represents your company and identifies it at a glance. Keep the name of your company at the forefront of the design.

Keep it simple. One or two colors will do. Too many colors are distracting and will take the focus off the content of your logo. A simple logo will identify your company without distracting your customers.
