The London broil, to the purists, is not a cut of beef, but rather a method of cooking. Originally, the cut of meat was the flank steak, but through the years has come to be applied to any cut of beef that is lean and tender. An actual London broil is a flank steak, pan fried to medium rare, cut across the grain and served. Later, it was changed to marinating the steak and then grilling or broiling it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ¼ cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. of Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp. of honey
  • 2 tbps. of vinegar
  • 2 tsp. of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. of ginger, ground
  • 1 London broil steak, 20 to 24 oz.
  • Plastic bag or plastic bowl
  • Broiler pan
  • Tongs
  1. Step 1

Combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, garlic powder, ginger and vinegar into a plastic bowl or plastic bag. Mix well.

  2. Step 2

Add the London broil steak to the marinade. Cover the plastic bowl or seal the plastic bag.

  3. Step 3

Place the steak and marinade into the refrigerator for four hours. Turn meat and cover in marinade. Let sit in refrigerator for at least another four hours--if longer than eight hours, be sure to rotate the meat every four hours.

  4. Step 4

Turn on the oven and set it to broil.

  5. Step 5

Place steak on broiler pan. Put the broiler pan into the oven. Broil the steak for 2 minutes. Turn the steak over using the tongs, and add more marinate. Cook another 2 minutes. This produces a medium rare steak.

  6. Step 6

Pull steak from oven. Cut across the grain. Serve.
