How to Install a Scanner in Linux
Scanners are a great way to copy images and pages and make digital copies of hard copy versions of documents and pictures. Most scanners are compatible with Linux. Scanner drivers are made for almost every distribution of Linux. You can keep digital records of receipts, make copies of resources for reports and presentations, and make digital copies of your favorite pictures. Installing a scanner on Linux takes less than fifteen minutes and can be done by any Linux user.

Insert the CD that came with your scanner. It will run automatically.

Click "Next" to begin the scanner installation. Click "Agree" to agree to the license terms.

Follow the installation wizard to install the scanner software. Connect your scanner via a USB cable to your computer when prompted. Linux will recognize the hardware and install it.

Click "Finish" when the installation is complete.

If the scanner doesn't work properly, visit the manufacturer's website. Go to the "Support" or "Help" section and select your scanner make and model. You will be provided with support specific to your scanner. Select "Drivers and Downloads" or something worded similarly. Download the Linux driver. Double-click the downloaded driver to install.

Restart your computer to complete the scanner installation.

If you don't have software, you can download the drivers, connect the scanner, and then install the drivers.
Be sure your scanner is compatible with Linux before purchasing it. You can check the manufacturer's website if you can't find compatibility information on the box.
