How to Find Where a Deceased Person Is Buried
Finding where a deceased person is buried is not as simple as using an index or obtaining an alphabetical listing of all burials by cemetery. Unfortunately, this information, and catalog system, does not exist. But there are ways to find where a deceased person is buried.

1
Contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state where the deceased person is believed to have lived. For confirmation, contact relatives, and obtain a list of possible states of residence.
-
2
Request a copy of the deceased person's death certificate. To obtain the certificate, you must pay a nominal fee and provide a valid driver's license or state identification card.
-
-
3
Verify the city and state where the death certificate states the deceased person died.
-
4
Obtain a list of cemeteries. Because there is not a statewide or citywide index for burial locations, you must do the legwork to find the burial location. Provide the name of the deceased person, as well as the date of death. All cemeteries retain records, and can verify if and when the person was buried.
-
5
Ask friends or family of the deceased person where he is buried.
If you are in the same city at the time of the death, the obituary will generally appear within seven days of the death and will list the cemetery where the person will be buried.
