Things You'll Need:
- Disassembled saxophone in case
- Vaseline or cork grease
- Soft cloth
- Reed for saxophone
- neck strap

Step 1
Open Saxophone Case

Carefully remove the neck piece from the the case. The neck piece is the U shaped piece with the cork on the end. Add a bit of cork grease or Vaseline to the cork.

Remove the mouthpiece.

Carefully put the mouthpiece onto the cork leaving about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Line up the top of the mouthpiece with the key on top of the neck. Set aside for a moment.

Pick up the body of the saxophone being careful not to drop it. They tend to be heavy especially in the lower range instruments.

Take out the black retainer on the small end of the sax. This helps prevent the octave piece from getting bent. Loosen the screw slightly so that the neck will slide in easily.

Insert the neck into the top of the saxophone, wiggling it back and forth slightly to get it to go in. Line up the mouth with the octave key at the top of the body in the back.

Tighten the screw that holds in the neck taking care not to over tighten.

Take the neck strap out of the case and put it over your neck, clipping it onto the ring located on the back of the sax. Adjust.

Take the reed and moisten it slightly. The thick edge will be inserted under the ligature and the thin end will cover the hole. The flat side goes against the mouthpiece.

Loosen the ligature- the metal piece on the mouthpiece. Gently slide the reed until the top of the reed is lined up with the top of the mouthpiece.

Tighten the screws being careful not to tighten too much.

Step 13
Most saxophones come with a mouthpiece cover. Take this cover and carefully put it onto the mouthpiece.
