If you like the convenience of Bluetooth accessories, like printers, headsets, and keyboards, but don't have Bluetooth currently installed on your computer, you can install this wireless technology on your computer with the help of an adapter and a specialized program.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a Bluetooth adapter that is compatible with your computer. When looking at different adapters, make sure you check the box to make sure your computer is compatible with the adapter you want.

  2. Step 2

Plug in your new adapter in the appropriate computer port. Most times, this will be a USB part, although ExpressPort adapters for laptop computers do exist. A window will pop up letting you know that the Bluetooth adapter has been detected by the computer. Close this window.

  3. Step 3

Insert the Bluetooth installation CD that came with your adapter. This CD contains drivers that will allow your computer to work with the adapter, as well as a management program which will allow you to work with the different connections to and from your Bluetooth device.

  4. Step 4

An installation prompt should pop up. If it doesn't go to My Computer and click on the CD icon. Then click through the various prompts to install the Bluetooth adapter. You can then open the Bluetooth management device and start syncing up your favorite Bluetooth devices.

Tips & Warnings
  • When shopping around for a Bluetooth adapter, make sure you always take a few key elements into consideration: minimum operating system, memory required, and minimum processing power required. All of these requirements need to be satisfied for your Bluetooth adapter to work on your computer.
