Schedule a College Visit

If you or your child are planning on attending college, the best way to know which college is right for you or them is to make a good number of college visits.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you know what major you want to work towards, then choose colleges that have that major. If you don't know what major you want to pursue, then look to attend colleges that people you know attend. If people you know are happy with a college, then you have a better chance of liking the college too.

  2. Step 2

Once you decide on a college you would like to visit, go on the Internet and look over their website. Find the phone number for their office of Admissions and call to let them know you would like to schedule a visit.

  3. Step 3

Tell them that you would like a campus tour. If you want to sit in on a class or meet any faculty members or coaches, be sure to tell them that too.

  4. Step 4

Set the time you would like to meet someone in the Admissions office and then plan to leave about a half hour earlier than you think it will take you to get there. If you get there early you can look around on your own before your appointment.

  5. Step 5

Be sure to ask exactly where there office is located. Just because you might know where the college is doesn't mean their Admissions office will be easy to locate.

  6. Step 6

Write your questions down before you leave the house. Set a piece of paper out in plain view a few days before your visit so you can jot down a list of questions as you think of them during the day.

  7. Step 7

Once you get to the college be sure to keep your eyes and ears wide open. Listen closely to what your tour guide says and be sure to ask questions if you read anything between the lines of what they are saying.

Tips & Warnings
  • Visit as many colleges as possible. You'll be better able to tell which one is right for you if you visit a variety of colleges.
