Icons, or personalized graphics, are a fun and popular way to leave comments for your friends and to decorate your MySpace profile. There are a lot of pre-made icons available online for MySpace users, however many users prefer to create icons with their own unique flair. With a very little time, you can make your own personal MySpace icons for fun or self-promotion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital photo editing software
  • Online photo hosting account or FTP server space
  • Word processing software
  1. Step 1

Find a public domain (copyright-free) image you'd like to use or create your own. It's best to use a .jpg or .gif file because .png files do not upload well on MySpace.

  2. Step 2

Resize the image if it's larger than 400 x 400 pixels. Anything larger than that won't work well on MySpace and most icons are half that size or less. Edit the image with your personalized text in your photo editing software.

  3. Step 3

Upload the photo to your own FTP server or to a photo-hosting site such as Photobucket.com or Snapfish.com. Most Internet providers also offer free online storage space that can be used to host images. The file size of your image should be no larger than 1 megabyte and preferably around 100 to 500 kilobytes.

  4. Step 4

Open a word processor document and create the HTML code for sharing your image on MySpace. The basic formula is: <img src="http:/yourhost.com/pix/smile.gif" width="100" height="100" alt="Smile" />

  5. Step 5

Save the document and copy the HTML code to your clipboard.

  6. Step 6

Log in to MySpace and paste the code in your profile or in your friends' "Comments" section.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your URL and image name are completely enclosed in quotes or the HTML code won't work. If you want the image to link to your personal website, change the HTML link code to: <a href="http://www.yourwebsite.com"><img src="http://yourhostingurl/image_name.jpg"></a>
  • Do not pull images from other websites unless they specifically state they're public domain images or you'll violate copyright laws.
