How to Install a Network Printer Wizard
A printer can be installed over a network to allow multiple computers to access it. Once the printer is installed to a router or server, the printer can then be installed with a network printer wizard. No software is needed. Instead of taking the printer to each individual computer to install, you only have one main installation. The network printer wizard helps you find a printer on the network based on IP address or network location. Follow these helpful steps.

1
Install the printer on a server or connect the printer to a router. Use the software that comes with the printer to install it on the server. Don't connect the printer until prompted. If connected to a router, install the software on a server or other computer to assign the printer an IP address. Some printers allow you to set the IP address from the printer itself. In this case, the software isn't necessary.

2
Go to a client computer to use the network printer wizard.

3
Click on "Start" and "Printers and Faxes." Click "Add a Printer" to search for printers.

4
Click "Next" and click the button "A Network Printer or a Printer Attached to Another Computer." Click "Next" to continue.

5
Select "Browse for a Printer" and click "Next." Select the computer name that the printer is installed on and click the printer name or IP address. Click "Next."

Keep in mind that some printers automatically install from this point. Other models require you to select the brand and model number from a list. If your model isn't on the list, select a comparable model number. This allows the network printer wizard to install compatible drivers for the printer.

Double-check that the network printer is now listed in the "Printers and Faxes" screen.

Tips & Warnings
To access any special features, such as editing software for the printer, the software must be installed on each individual computer. If you know the computer network path, you can type it in the "Connect to This Printer" name box instead of using the "Browse" feature.
