Instructions

  1. Cutting the Pieces for The Jewerly Box

    • 1

Cut out two 6-inch by 1-foot pieces using the circular saw. One is the bottom of the box and the other is the lid.

    • 2

Cut out two 4-inch by 1-foot rectangular pieces for the long sides.

    • 3

Cut out two rectangular pieces that are 4 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

    • 4

Sand any rough edges off all cut pieces. Apply wood stain or paint of your choice and allow to dry.

    Assembling The Jewerly Box

    • 5

Build the 6-inch by 1-foot frame of the box. Lay the 1-foot-long pieces on edge parallel to each other 6 inches apart and place the 5 1/2-inch-long pieces on each side in between them. Drive two 1-inch screws through each end of the longer side pieces into the shorter pieces.

    • 6

Attach the bottom to the frame. Align a 6-inch by 1-foot piece over the frame and drive a 1-inch screw every three inches through the bottom all the way around into the frame.

    • 7

Use 3/8-inch screws to fasten the two hinges to the other 6-inch by 1-foot piece for the lid. Attach half of the hinges on a 1-foot side 2 inches inward from each end. Next, hold the lid vertically over the frame and attach the hinges to a 1-foot edge of the box with 1-inch screws.

    • 8

Cut cloth to fit across the bottom of your box and up the sides. Spread glue over all surfaces inside and carefully attach the cloth. Allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always ventilate the area where you will use stains and other finishes. Use caution and wear proper safety gear when operating power tools. They can cause serious injury.
