How to Construct a Rubber Band Book
No matter how simple the binding, the difference between a stack of loose papers and a bound book can be huge. There are many different techniques for binding books, from the very easy to those requiring professional book-binding equipment. A rubber band book is among the easiest ways to bind a book, and can be done by children with nothing more complicated and dangerous than a pair of scissors and a hole-punch.

1
Stack the sheets of paper that you want to make into a book. Although you can make a rubber band book out of many thicknesses, make sure it isn't too thick to punch holes through.
-
2
Cut out two pieces of cardboard that are the same size as your paper, if you want hard covers for the book. Put the stack of paper between the two pieces of cardboard.

3
Line up your covers and your paper, and then punch two holes through the stack. Put the holes either on the side of the book or on the top, depending on how you want it to open.
-
4
Slip a rubber band through each hole.

Secure the rubber bands in place. Although simply tying the rubber bands on both sides is an option, a more stable way to bind the book is with a spine piece. To put in a spine piece, tie off the rubber bands in the back of the book, and slip a pencil, pen, or other long object through the rubber band's loops in the front. The spine piece should be longer than the distance between the rubber bands, but shorter than the width of the book.
