How to Use Roll Roofing
For inexpensive roofing jobs, like a shed, roll roofing is a cost effective alternative to shingles. You can install roll roofing quickly and easily without adding a great deal of time to your project. Roll roofing comes in large rolls, and can be installed in long lengths rather than individual shingles. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lay out your first roll of roofing so that it just overlaps the edge of your building.
-
2
Hammer in roofing nails at 12-inch intervals. Stagger the nails rather than hammering them in a straight line.
-
-
3
Paint a 3-inch line of roofing tar along the upper edge of the roll. It doesn't have to be exact, but make sure the line is fairly even and thick. Be sure to wear work gloves.
-
4
Roll out the next layer of roofing so that the edge overlaps 3 inches on the first roll. The new roll should cover the tar to create a watertight seal.
-
5
Seal the edge with nails. Hammer nails at 12-inch intervals, staggering them directly over the covered tar strip.
-
6
Nail down the rest of the roofing at 12-inch intervals.
-
7
Continue this process working from the bottom up, always tarring and overlapping the rolled roofing. When you reach the top of the roof, start from the bottom on the other side.
