How to Create Avery Labels

Avery labels can be used for mailing labels, file folders, CD and DVD labels, name badges and various arts and crafts projects. Get creative and design mailing labels with different fonts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new document in Microsoft Word. Go the "Tools" tab on the title bar. When the tab is highlighted, left click once. Go down to the option titled "Letters and Mailings." A small menu will appear to the right.

    • 2

Highlight the "Envelopes and Labels" option and left-click once. A small pop up box will appear in the middle of your document. Select the tab titled "Labels."

    • 3

Left click on the tab titled "Options." A small pop-up box titled "Label Options" will appear. Set the "Printer Information" section to the "Default Tray" setting. In the "Label Information" section, select "Avery Standard," then scroll down and select the four-digit product number or name of your labels.

    • 4

Place the cursor in the text box and type the content for your label.

    • 5

Place blank Avery labels in the printer tray following the direction of the arrows on the edges of the blank label. Press "Ok" to print the labels.

Tips & Warnings

  • The printer will print on every individual label if you do not select "Single Label" before printing. To print a single label, select the tab and specify the row and column; this is helpful when printing on pre-used Avery labels. Create your own label by following Steps 1 through 3, then selecting "New Label" instead of a product number. To change the font, highlight the text, right click and select "Font."

  • Avoid wasting labels by doing a test print on a piece of standard paper.
