How to Make a Poultice for a Toothache

Toothaches don't always wait for a convenient time to occur. Sometimes you can develop dental pain when you have no access to dental care. Whether the issue is monetary, or your dentist is simply on vacation, you may not have access to immediate professional help for the pain. But there are home remedies that can ease the pain until you are able to see a professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Cook a serving of oatmeal in a saucepan on a stove. Try to avoid microwaveable or quick oats. Let saucepan stand until oats are cool.

    • 2

Place a comfrey tea bag in a teacup or measuring cup. Let the teabag steep no longer than 5 to 7 minutes.

    • 3

Place the cooked oatmeal onto the surface of the teabag. Using a dropper, drop oil of cloves over this poultice.

    • 4

Place the poultice in your mouth, directly onto the aching surface. The comfrey will ease the swelling, the oatmeal will help reduce inflammation and the oil of cloves will take away some of the pain.

    • 5

As the pain returns, add more oil of cloves to the poultice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tofu may be substituted for oatmeal to help reduce inflammation.

  • This remedy is in no way a substitute for dental care. Whenever possible, see your dentist to fix the underlying problem causing your toothache.
