Strategize while you are playing. Doing something well often means exhibiting a strategic effort to do so. When you have an opportunity to replace tiles try to replace the low-ranking tiles. The more high-ranking tiles you have, the more opportunities you will have to create high point words. You will also want to make sure you always have at least one or two vowels on hand to create your words. Additionally, remain focused on your letters and spend time brainstorming while your opponent is taking his turn. The more time you take to focus on your letters, the better you will do. Take your time also to review the board to see if your opponent created any new letter formation opportunities for you.

Take part of other opportunities to improve your vocabulary skills. The better you are at reading and recognizing new words, the more success you will have at playing Scrabble. Take time out of your day to read books and try reading books that are beyond your skill level. Additionally, you could play computer games that will help you with reading, word identification and phonics. Before long you should be creating all sorts of new words and playing Scrabble quite well.
