Flower seed wedding invitations are a lovely way to share your new life with others. The invited guests can enjoy the beauty of the invitation and when they are ready, they can plant the card to produce the beauty of the flowers. Making your own paper with the organic beauty of flower seeds will give your invitations an expensive and custom-made look at a fraction of the custom-made price.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Light or White Recyclable Paper
  • Construction Paper, Color of Choice
  • Blender
  • Flower Seeds
  • Spoon
  • Strainer Ladle
  • Bowl
  • Bath Towel
  • White Felt
  • Ruler
  • Household Sponge
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Oven
  • Vellum
  • Computer and Printer
  • Paper Hole Punch
  • 5/8 inch wide Tulle Ribbon
  1. Step 1

Fill the blender half way with warm water. Tear several sheets of the paper into small pieces no bigger than an inch square. Add the paper to the water and let it stand for a few minutes. Blend the paper to mix. Tear small pieces of colored construction paper and add it to the paper pulp to produce color in your paper. Blend to mix.

  2. Step 2

Sprinkle flower seeds into the blender and stir with a spoon. Do not blend the seeds. Immediately pour the pulp into a strainer ladle held over a bowl to drain the water.

  3. Step 3

Lay a bath towel folded double on your work area and place a piece of white felt, cut to the size of your desired finished paper, on top. Pour the strained pulp onto the felt and shape it to fit the form of the felt. Press the household sponge onto the pulp to suck the water from the fibers. Wring the sponge in the bowl and repeat until no more water can be lifted.

  4. Step 4

Lay a sheet of wax paper on a cookie sheet. Flip the pressed paper over and place it on the cookie sheet. Peel the felt from the paper. Place the cookie sheet in a turn 250-degree oven to dry. Watch carefully---the length of time will depend on how thick the paper is.

  5. Step 5

Create your announcement information on your computer and size the page to fit the size of the handmade flower seed paper. Print the announcement onto vellum and cut the sheet to fit the handmade paper.

  6. Step 6

Lay the vellum announcement over the handmade flower seed paper and match the edges. Punch two holes through both layers a 1/2 inch below the top center edge and 1 inch apart. Cut a 10 inch piece of ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the holes and tie in a bow on the front of the flower seed wedding invitation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase your envelopes before you make the paper. The paper should be 1/4 inch smaller than the envelope. You can add instructions for planting the invitations, so that your guests know how to make the invitations bloom.
