How to Fill in a GED Math Test Number Grid

Even after days of preparation for General Educational Development (GED) examinations, some students are not awarded points for questions they were able to answer correctly. They receive a poor score as a result of incorrectly completing the answer grid. For this reason, it is important to familiarize yourself with the answer sheet format of the GED before arriving at the test. This is especially important for GED math tests, whose answer grid involves both writing numbers and shading in circles that correspond to the answer.

Things You'll Need

• Pencil
• Eraser

Instructions

1. Locate the answer grid that corresponds to the number of the question you are answering.

2. Write the answer in numerals into the first row of the grid. Some answers will include a symbol, such as a decimal point or a solidus.

3. Shade in the corresponding numbered circle in the column below each numeral.

4. Verify that you have written and shaded the correct numerals and symbols on the grid.

Tips & Warnings

• Use of a particular type of pencil is required for many standardized tests to ensure that scanning machines are able to detect the answers marked. Familiarize yourself with requirements specific to the GED (see Resources).
