If you have ice cream in a container you need to serve but find that it is frozen inside, you do not have to wait. You can use your microwave to soften the ice cream for easy scooping. Couple this with a technique used by ice cream parlors to prepare the scoop, and you will have ice cream that is easy to scoop and will come completely out of the container.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice cream scoop
  • Bowl of warm water
  • Microwave
  1. Step 1

Place the container of ice cream in the microwave for 30 seconds on high power. Do not leave the container in the microwave for more than 30 seconds, or your ice cream will completely melt. You can also use the "soften" setting on the microwave if your model has one. To use the soften setting, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. Step 2

Remove the ice cream container from the microwave.

  3. Step 3

Dip the ice cream scoop into the bowl of warm water.

  4. Step 4

Scoop out the desired amount of ice cream. The warm water will heat up the ice cream scoop enough for it to cut cleanly through the ice cream, and the microwave will have softened the ice cream without melting it.

  5. Step 5

Leave the ice cream container on the counter for 15 minutes before serving if you do not have access to a microwave.
