How to Find a Job as a Nonprofit Consultant

Nonprofit organizations are great organizations to work for because they provide an opportunity for you to work for something you believe in. Although nonprofit organizations don't run their operations for profit as most corporations do, many nonprofits still have operating budgets to hire nonprofit consults. Finding a job as a nonprofit consultant is much like finding any other job; you just have to know where to look.

  1. Step 1

    Decide what kind of services you have to offer a nonprofit organization. Before beginning your job search, it is important to know what you are offering and what the nonprofit organizations are looking for. This will help you narrow your job search.

  2. Step 2

    Point your web browser to idealist.org. This is a great resource for people looking break into the nonprofit industry.

  3. Step 3

    Click the consultants link located on the homepage in the middle column. Once you have entered the consultants portal, you should browse the different consulting categories to get an idea of what kind of services current nonprofit consultants are offering.

  4. Step 4

    Click the jobs link to browse various job opportunities. Once you have determined what service you would like to offer a nonprofit, you can look for job openings. You can either browse the job listings or perform a keyword search. Be sure to check the box marked "contract" if you perform a search. Contract jobs will be the most likely to have consulting gigs.

  5. Step 5

    Send in the required application material to the nonprofit organizations you would like to work for.
