Concrete roof tiles are low maintenance compared to many other roofing options. They are durable and will continue to look good for years to come. As with any roof, there are routine things you can do to prolong the life of the tiles and keep them attractive. The primary thing to watch for is moss growth and debris buildup. Neither are likely to damage the roof, but it can look unattractive and/or block runoff. You can clean concrete roof tiles yourself easily with the right equipment.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pressure washer and accessories
  • Ladder
  • Goggles
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Attach the nozzle to your pressure washer. Most washers have a nozzle rated for concrete, otherwise use a 3,000 PSI-rated nozzle. Plug the pressure washer in and attach it to your water source.

  2. Step 2

Turn on the pressure washer then position yourself at the peak of the roof. You will need to wash in the direction of the roof's natural drainage. Put on your safety goggles before starting.

  3. Step 3

Make even passes over the roof with the pressure washer. Start at the top and work your way down, paying special attention to debris that is caught in the valleys of your roof.

  4. Step 4

Survey the roof after your first pass to verify that the concrete is cleaned evenly and that there is no remaining debris. If areas still appear dirty or drab, move closer to the area make 1 to 2 more passes with the pressure washer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stand 3 to 4 feet from the area you are washing, and 1 to 2 feet from stained areas. Concrete cleaners are available to add to the pressure washer if water alone does not clean the roof completely.
  • Always wear safety equipment such as goggles and gloves when pressure washing. Have a partner on the ground to hold the ladder. Use caution when standing on the roof and watch for loose tiles you could trip on.
