Occasionally from wear and use or from an item getting caught on your washing machine's agitator cap, you may crack the cap or break it completely. A broken agitator cap can be very bad because it will catch on pieces of clothing and possibly tear them. Removing your agitator cap can easily be done without calling a professional who may charge up to $100 an hour for this simple task. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the lid of your washing machine and allow the washer to dry completely if you recently washed clothes in it. Getting a firm grip on the agitator cap is otherwise difficult.

    • 2

Firmly grab the agitator cap on the top of the center agitator post (the agitator cap is on the top of the center post that rotates inside your washing machine; see the photo). Grasp both sides of the cap with your hands.

    • 3

Rotate the agitator cap counterclockwise until is completely unscrewed.

    • 4

Call the washer manufacturer or your local appliance store to order a new agitator cap for your model of washing machine.

    • 5

Install the new agitator cap by setting it in place and rotating it clockwise to fasten it.
