Most people count their photographs among their most treasured possessions, and displaying photos in your home as a decorative element adds a warmth to any room. Looking for a great way to display a group of photos without too much clutter? You can group your photos in an easy collage for a single display.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Poster frame
  • Roll of paper (such as shelf paper, wallpaper or wrapping paper)
  • Shape templates
  • Craft knife
  • Self healing cutting board
  • Pencil
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Piece of plain paper
  • Ruler
  • Photos
  • Scrapbooking templates in various shapes
  1. Step 1

Remove the cardboard backing from your poster frame and set the frame and glass or plastic covering aside. Set the cardboard on a table.

  2. Step 2

Choose a roll of paper with a nice design on it. The design should match your decor, but not be so busy that it overwhelms the photos. You can use wrapping paper, wall paper scraps, or even a nice shelf liner. Cut a piece of it to be the exact same size as your cardboard backing.

  3. Step 3

Lay your photos onto the paper. Arrange them in a pleasing display. It's best to start with the largest photo, featuring it, and then surround it with smaller photos. You can go for an even, symmetrical look, or lay them out in a fun, haphazard but balanced way.

  4. Step 4

Take a plain piece of paper and a pencil. Make a small diagram showing where each photo goes in the layout. Write something that will help you remember which photo goes where. It doesn't have to be perfect. This is just a scrap that will help you remember how the photos are placed in your layout.

  5. Step 5

Choose a template shape for the first photograph. Lay it onto the photo until it is positioned exactly as you like it. Be sure that the edges or corners of the photo extend past the edges of the template.

  6. Step 6

Carefully slide the photo out from under the template, while keeping the template in place. Use a pencil to trace the template onto the paper. Choose a template for another photo, set it over the photo, remove the photo and trace it. Continue doing this until you've traced a shape for each photo in your layout.

  7. Step 7

Place the paper on a self-healing cutting board. These plastic boards will make it easy to trace the shape with your craft knife and protect your table, but unlike scrap wood or cardboard, you won't risk your blade getting stuck or going off-course. Use your craft knife to cut out each shape you traced.

  8. Step 8

Lay your paper, being careful not to bend or crease it, onto the cardboard backing. Line it up with the edges of the cardboard. Slide one photo underneath into it's place, so that it shows through the shape you cut out for it. Use a dab of a glue stick on the back of the photo to secure it to the cardboard backing.

  9. Step 9

Continue sliding the photos under the paper and securing them in place to the cardboard with the glue stick until they are all in place. Trace the glue stick around the edges of the back of the paper and press it into place on the cardboard backing.

  10. Step 10

Put the cardboard back into the frame. Hang your photo wall hanging to display it.
