How to Set Up Bluetooth on a Laptop

Bluetooth connectivity on a laptop allows you to quickly link your cell phone and other Bluetooth-enabled devices to your computer for file sharing and other tasks. The technology has come a long way in recent years, and more and more devices are now becoming equipped for Bluetooth connectivity. In the advancements, setting up and syncing Bluetooth devices has also gotten easier.

      Place the Bluetooth module into a free USB 2.0 port. Windows will automatically recognize the new device. A prompt will pop up informing you that Windows is installing the drivers necessary for the device to run. You will not need to do anything. Just allow the drivers to install.

      Once the drivers are all installed, place your Bluetooth-enabled device into seek mode. On most cell phones, the Bluetooth controls are located in the "setup" menu. Enable the Bluetooth device.

      Enter the control panel on your Windows laptop. Click on the "Network and Internet" icon. A window will open. Click on the "Add Bluetooth device" icon. A new window will open.

      The window will have a white box that will be empty and an "add" button at the bottom. Click on the "add" button. A prompt will appear.

      In the prompt, there will be a clickable box asking you if your device is on and ready to be found. If you have turned your device on, click the box then hit "next". Your laptop will begin searching for visible Bluetooth devices.

      Once the device is found, it will appear in a window. Click the device so that it is highlighted then click "next" in the window. You will then be asked to enter a passkey. Enter a passcode that you can easily remember and click "next".

      Pick up your Bluetooth device and you will see a prompt asking for permission to connect to the laptop. Enter the passcode you set up previously, and your device will connect. You are now ready to share files and sync your devices.
