Food processors can save time, effort and money when preparing meals. With large, sharp blades, a wide glass bowl and multiple settings, you can use a food processor to do everything from mixing bread dough and crushing ice to chopping vegetables and making homemade breadcrumbs. If you have decided to invest in a food processor for your kitchen, there are several features to compare and consider when deciding which food processor is right for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the size of the food processor bowl and consider your personal needs. If you typically prepare meals for large groups of people, you will require a bigger appliance than you would if you just cooked for yourself and your spouse.

  2. Step 2

Think about what your typical usage will be. If you enjoy making homemade breads or want to chop large, raw vegetables, seek a larger capacity model. A bigger processor will almost always have a more powerful motor.

  3. Step 3

Take note of available attachments. Again, the attachments you may want will directly correspond to how you will use the processor. If you make bread, you might want a kneading attachment. Others, such as juicer or pasta maker attachments, may seem like overkill to you or might be your ideal.

  4. Step 4

Determine your budget. There are decent food processors available ranging from $50 up to $150 (or more). Seek a reputable brand name that fits your price range, even if that means foregoing some bells and whistles.

  5. Step 5

Contemplate the size and weight of food processors. If you have limited counter space or will need to store the appliance when not in use, you may want to opt for a smaller, more lightweight model.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider how difficult a food processor will be to clean. If you choose one that is a bear to take apart and wash, you might end up using it less.
