Playing drums can be an enjoyable hobby, but drums take up a lot of space and are extremely loud. The Pearl Rhythm Traveler drum set is very compact and comes with mesh heads for quiet playing.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bass drum roughly in the center of the area you want the kit to be. Attach the two legs to the sides of the drum and secure them level with one another. Lightly shake the drum. If it wobbles too much, adjust the legs until it is secure. Secure the bass pedal in place using the clamp underneath the pedal.

    • 2

Insert the two tom supports into the top of the bass drum. Secure them so they are at a level height with one another. Place one of the two toms on each bracket and secure the wing nuts. The smaller 10-inch tom goes on the left and the larger 12-inch tom goes on the right.

    • 3

Unfold the snare stand and set it up. Adjust it to a height where it will rest comfortably between your legs. Tilt the basket toward you, then place the snare drum in the basket and secure it.

    • 4

Unfold the larger crash/ride cymbal stand and set it to a comfortable height where the cymbal will be higher than the tom drums. Place the following pieces on the top of the stand in this order: cymbal washer, cymbal felt, cymbal, cymbal felt, wing nut.

    • 5

Attach the tom clamp to the cymbal stand you just put together under the height adjustment wing nut on the stand. Place the short tom holder on the other side of the clamp and secure. Place the largest 14-inch tom drum on this clamp and secure. Adjust the height so this drum sits lower than the other two toms, about level with your snare drum.

    • 6

Unfold the hi-hat stand. Squeeze the two metal bars underneath the pedal and place the ends in the holes at the bottom of the stand. Place the hi-hat rest, the black plastic piece with felt attached, at the top of the stand. Place the bottom hi-hat cymbal on top of this face down so it looks like a bowl.

    • 7

Attach the hi-hat clutch to the top hi-hat. Make sure there is a piece of felt on each side of the cymbal. Place this on top of the other hi-hat so it makes a sandwich. Lightly depress the pedal then tighten the wing nut on the clutch. The top hat should lift slightly off the bottom when you release the pedal.

Tips & Warnings

  • This kit comes with two sets of heads and cymbals. Use the black heads and cymbals for quiet playing and the other set for louder playing. Musician's Friend (see Resources) sells the Pearl Rhythm Traveler and replacement heads at discount prices.

  • Always have a thick piece of cymbal felt on both sides of your real cymbals to prevent cracking. If it wears thin, buy and install more.
