To prevent damage to this sensitive instrument, learning to assemble a flute properly is a must for beginning student

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flute disassembled
  • A couple of soft rags or cloths
  • Vaseline
  1. Step 1

    Open Flute Case.

  2. Step 2

    Carefully take out the body of the flute, being careful to lift it from the ends and not the keys.

  3. Step 3

    Firmly grasp the end of the flute where there are no keys. Do not grasp the keys at all.

  4. Step 4
    This is the mouthpiece end.

    Pick up the mouth piece and gently insert it into the end of the body where you are grasping it. Be careful not to push it in too far.

  5. Step 5

    If the mouthpiece is hard to insert, carefully dab a bit of Vaseline and wipe of the remaining so that it does not build up in the flute.

  6. Step 6

    Line up the hole with the keys.

  7. Step 7

    Pick up the flute end piece being careful to grasp it underneath the keys and not directly on them.

  8. Step 8

    Gently slide the end piece into the body of the flute. Add Vaseline as needed, being careful to remove excess.

  9. Step 9

    Line up the foot joint so that the rod is centered with the tone holes of the body joint of the flute.

  10. Step 10

    It is always a good idea to remove fingerprints and Vaseline from the flute as they over time will tarnish the finish.

  11. Step 11

    Now you are ready to play!
