Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Heat-shrink plastic window film, measured to fit
- Double -sided window film tape
- Utility knife
- Blow dryer
-
Step 1
Measure your window to ensure the plastic window film is large enough to cover. The plastic piece should be at least 2 inches larger than the window frame on all sides.
-
Step 2
Run a piece of double-sided window film tape around the frame of the window, peeling the covering off the side of the tape that is contacting the frame in 1-foot lengths as you work. As you reach a corner, fold the tape onto itself to turn on an angle.
-
Step 3
Press the tape firmly to all surfaces of the frame to make an airtight seal.
-
Step 4
Pull the backing off the tape side that is facing into the room.
-
Step 5
Hold the sheet of plastic to the top of the window and press it gently onto the tape on the corners; check that it is square on the window and is overlapping the frame tape on all sides.
-
Step 6
Stretch the plastic gently to adhere to all four corners of the window tape, then press down all along the tape line with your finger. Don't worry about wrinkles in the film; the object is to make sure the plastic is sealed all around by the tape.
-
Step 7
Turn the blow dryer on high, and holding it 6 inches from the plastic film, aim the stream of heat onto any wrinkles that remain in the plastic film. Move the dryer around until all the wrinkles disappear; this takes only 5 to 10 seconds per wrinkle.
-
Step 8
Remove the excess plastic around the outside of the tape by gently pulling the plastic taut and cutting it with a utility knife.
