Things You'll Need:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Photograph
-
Step 1
Open the photograph in Photoshop by going to "File" from the menu bar and then selecting "Open."
-
Step 2
Right-click on the photograph layer in the Layers box and select "Duplicate." Delete the original background layer.
-
Step 3
Take the Magic Lasso tool from the tool bar or press "L" on the keyboard. Click and drag the Magic Lasso tool around the image to isolate the person. Double click on the last point to close the Lasso tool. When finished, right-click on the image and choose "Select Inverse." Press Delete on your keyboard. Then press Ctrl + D to deselect.
-
Step 4
Go to "File" from the Menu bar and Open a texture image (see Resources for the image found in this tutorial). Go to "Edit" and select "Define Pattern." Name the pattern and click "Okay."
-
Step 5
Return to the photo. Duplicate the layer and then hide the copy, which should be on top. Right-click on the copy and select "Blending Options." Select "Stroke" and change color to black. Also, select "Pattern Overlay" and change the Mode to Color Dodge at 50 percent opacity. Select the Pattern from Step 4 by clicking on the arrow next to the Patterns menu. Change scale to 300 percent, although this depends widely on the size of your original image. Play around to see what scale size works best, with no visible seams on your image.
-
Step 6
Unhide the top layer. Go to "Filter" and select "Blur," then "Smart Blur." Change the Radius to 5, the Threshold to 25, the Quality to High and the Mode to Edge Only.
-
Step 7
Go to "Image," and select "Adjustments," then "Invert," or press Ctrl + I on your keyboard.
-
Step 8
Hide the bottom layer. While still on the top layer, select the Magic Wand tool from the Tool bar or press "W" on the keyboard. Click on the image, selecting all the white areas. Press Delete on the keyboard to erase all the white, revealing a transparent background and a thin black outline. Press Ctrl + D to deselect.
-
Step 9
Go to "Blending Options" and select "Stroke." Change the color to black. Select "Color Overlay" and change that color to black as well. Erase some lines to create a less cluttered feel.
-
Step 10
Duplicate the bottom layer. Right-click and select "Clear Layer Style."
-
Step 11
Go to "Filter," and select "Sketch," then "Graphic Pen." Change the Stroke Length to 15 and the Light/Dark Balance to 50.
-
Step 12
Create a new layer. Grab the Soft Brush from the Tool bar. Take color samples from the face by double-clicking on the Foreground Color tool on the Tool bar and then clicking on the color. Brush over the face, continuing to sample as you go to create an accurate array of coloring.
-
Step 13
Go to "Filter" and select "Blur," then "Gaussian Blur." Change to 35. In the Layer box, change the opacity to 60 percent. Repeat steps 12 and 13 for the hands.
-
Step 14
Go to "Layer" and select "Merge Visible." Next, open the Cobblestone image, and click on "Window" and select "Arrange," then "Tile." Drag the Cobblestone image over to the cartoon photo. Select "Edit" and click on "Transform," then "Perspective." Distort Cobblestone to make the cartoon's perspective.
-
Step 15
Create text by clicking on the Text tool from the Tool Bar and selecting "Boris Black Boxx Dirty" (see Resources). Change size to 30 pt, and make the text color orange #ED8C1A.
-
Step 16
Distort the text to match the photo's perspective.
-
Step 17
Select "Overlay" from "Mode" on the Layer box. Click on the Brush tool and paint several orange dots around the graffiti text. Create a new layer above all others and "splatter" orange paint over the jeans.
-
Step 18
Go to "Blending Options," and select "Drop Shadow" at 90 degree angles. Change the Contour to half-rounded. Save.
